Our Impact in Numbers
We at the GMR Group strongly believe that corporates have a special and continuing responsibility to contribute towards social development. Our philosophy has been that we will work intensively with communities which neighbour our businesses to enhance quality of life. It is with this vision that we started work in Rajam, near our Jute and Sugar operations in 1991, to bring quality education to the communities there.
It has been a long journey since then. Today, the GMR Group has an international presence and has ventured into the Airports, Energy, Highways and Urban Infrastructure sectors. But the basic philosophy of our CSR has remained the same. With the growth of the Group, the Corporate Social Responsibility has also grown in scale and scope, and today GMR Varalakshmi Foundation has a presence in 20 locations across the country. We work with the underserved sections of the communities in each of these locations, looking at Education; Health, Hygiene and Sanitation; Empowerment and Livelihoods and Community development. Social responsibility is also one of the seven core values of the Group.
