Grandhi Satyavathi Smitha is an accomplished leader at the intersection of technology, education, social development, and family business governance.
With a Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Madras and a Master’s in Software Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, she brings strong technical depth to her diverse leadership roles. Her MA in Special Education & Inclusion further reflects her commitment to creating equitable and accessible learning environments.
In her role as Secretary of the Family Council of the GMR Family, Smitha Grandhi plays a defining role in shaping governance systems that strengthen communication, unity, and long-term stewardship within the family enterprise. She is a key architect of the GMR Family Constitution—widely regarded as a reference model for family businesses in India.
Smitha Grandhi serves on the Boards of GMR Energy Trading Ltd., GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Pvt. Ltd., and the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), the Group’s CSR arm. At GMRVF, she drives various programs across education, health, community development, and empowerment.
She is driven by purpose and especially leads with passion the Education Vertical for GMR and guides the many colleges and schools under the Group. She understands the impact education has on the younger generations and is deeply invested in building education institutions that develop value-based human beings and fulfilling careers. Her leadership brings with it commitment to build quality infrastructure combined with strong academic rigor and all-round student development. Her vision is to bring high value education to the students of India thereby creating opportunities for young people from diverse backgrounds of society.
She is also a Board Member of the Parampara Family Business Institute (PFBI), an institution dedicated to strengthening India’s small and medium family businesses. Her contributions have helped reinvigorate PFBI’s efforts in knowledge sharing, research, and ecosystem building.
