Srinivas Bommidala is the Business Chairman – Energy & International Airports at GMR Group and serves as a Director on the Company’s Board. As one of the earliest directors of the Group, he has played a pivotal role in shaping GMR’s evolution from a domestic infrastructure player into a global airport and energy platform.
He began his professional journey in his family’s tobacco export business in 1982, where he helped expand international operations and diversify into allied sectors. This early exposure to entrepreneurship, international trade, and operational scale laid the foundation for his later leadership within GMR.
In the mid‑1990s, as India’s infrastructure sector began to open up, Mr. Bommidala joined GMR Group and became one of its first directors. From 1995 onwards, he led the bidding, development and operations across all major verticals of the Group, including Airports, Energy, Urban Infrastructure and Sports. His leadership has been central to GMR’s ability to enter new sectors, navigate complex public–private partnerships and deliver large-scale projects in India and overseas.
In 1995, he was instrumental in setting up one of India’s first PPP power projects, marking GMR’s early entry into the energy sector. In 2006, he served as the first Managing Director of Delhi International Airport during its transition phase. Under his leadership, the airport underwent large-scale modernisation, including new runways, terminals, and upgraded infrastructure, positioning it among South Asia’s leading aviation hubs.
Mr. Bommidala also led GMR’s foray into sports franchises and incubated the Group’s IT and digital transformation initiatives, recognising early the importance of technology and fan engagement in the broader infrastructure ecosystem. Under his guidance, the Aerotropolis concept was conceived and implemented at Delhi and Hyderabad Aerocity’s, integrating offices, hotels, retail, entertainment and logistics around airport hubs. These airport‑anchored districts have since evolved into global destinations for business, commerce and leisure.
From 2012 to 2017, he served as Chairman of the Airports business, during which period GMR emerged among the top five airport developers in the world. He delivered a robust growth pipeline for the sector by securing key projects in India and overseas, including Manohar International Airport in Goa, Mactan Cebu International Airport in the Philippines, the new airport at Crete in Greece and Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, Indonesia. Along the way, he championed the creation of a full airport ecosystem spanning design, development, concession management, operations and talent development through initiatives such as GMR’s aviation academies.
Mr. Bommidala currently leads GMR’s International Airports portfolio across Southeast Asia and Greece, while steering the strategic transformation of the Energy business. His focus in energy has been on strengthening portfolio balance through generation, trading, renewables, and smart distribution, with emphasis on operational discipline, regulatory alignment, and progressive decarbonisation.
Across his leadership roles, he combines project execution capability, international infrastructure development experience, and a strong commitment to governance and institution building, contributing to GMR’s long-term sustainable growth.
